Morning in Paris Old World Cafe

Breaking New Grounds, 13 Exchange St., is now called Morning in Paris Old World Cafe (Thanks BD!). There's a new creamer station. Anyone know if there's been a change in ownership?

I heard that a couple from Paris(France, not Maine) bought the place and that they were planning to eventually start serving food there in addition to coffee, etc.

Yes, there are new owners from France. They seem to be making some good changes with the cleanliness. I was worried they would make it 'too nice' because it's so chill and relax and a great place to spend an hour doing homework or reading on a rainy day. The main reason I go there is to spend time in a place with the perfect vibe and employees. The employees there are all super friendly, wicked laid back, great at steaming milk, and they really are great Portlanders. They're the epitome of the Portland 20 or 30 something art or band person.

Does anyone know how to get ahold of the new owners? I was there last night and had a horrible experience. I walked in to ask directions to MDI Ice Cream. The barista said that she didn't know, but she was really rude about it. I asked if she was kidding and she said: "does it look like I'm kidding?" The ice cream shop was literally only a few doors up the street. I then got a coffee at Starbucks. I got to thinking about it, and I went back to ask her why she was so rude. She started screaming at me (I'm not exaggerating) about how I was the rude one because she'd had a line of customers when I'd first gotten there. She had been helping exactly two customers, one of whom was still in the store. I politely asked him if I'd been rude. He shook his head no, and at this the barista (who's name I found out today is Claire or Clara) demanded that I get out. I asked her the name of manager and the owner of the shop. She refused to tell me. When I asked her why she was kicking me out she told me it was because I wasn't a customer. I told her that I'd leave when she told me her boss's name. I had to ask her three times before she finally said the woman's name was Isabel. She then walked me to the door and slammed it in my face.

I've been going to that coffee shop now for fifteen years. I have never experienced anything like this in Portland. I (begrudgingly) headed up to Starbucks where I shared this story with the barista. She told me that she'd gone in there to ask about a job and had gotten basically the same response that I had.

Morning in Paris used to be a very laid back coffee shop. I will never go back there. If any of you happen to know the owner or the manager's contact information, please let me know. Someone needs to hear about this.

If you know any information please let me know. My name is Tim. Thanks.
