G'Vanni's Italian Bistro

G’Vanni’s Bistro plans to open at 15 Exchange Street, the old Walter’s, via Portland City Council. The building's owner has some unresolved code issues that may have contributed to Shima opening elsewhere.

Must be the same G'Vanni's that was on wharf street. That place was pretty decent.

Actually in the city council memos Soley says bringing some people up from Boston so it means it's part of the G'Vanni's in the North End.

So I never knew, did the one we had on commercial street ever have anything to do with the ones in Boston or just happen to have the same name?

I meant to say wharf, not commercial in the last post

I worked at G'Vanni's on Wharf and it was owned by the same owners as Boston. "Jeff Carl" or something like that.... they also had that place where One Fifty Eight is now. It was a Asian bistro? The food was horrible and he is a scam artist. He sold a thousands of dollars worth of $100 gift certificates for $50.....and then shut down! His paychecks NEVER cleared and was a shady character. That is the last thing we need back here...Italian food in Bento Boxes!

Hey, moron if you ever worked for me you must have sucked as an employee thats why your check never cleared because you are totally incompetent because ultimately the customers are your boss because they are the ones that pay you not me and you are afraid to show your name on the blog. It's easy to slam someone or someplace when you dont have show who you are. You must be a real weakling. Jeff Karll

The person writting that they never got paid is saying the same story as three different people I talked to at the Billerica location that just closed. Not to mention I know it is true about him selling 50% GC and then going right out of business because I bought three hundred worth right before he closed. Now he is sueing the town of Billerica claiming they are the reason he failed - what a joke. Portland beware of buying gift certificates at this location as he has closed Worcester, Billerica, Florida and the first Portland store already.

Jeff Karll is a scam artist. Wish I had read this before. Beware of the gift certificate scam as he's getting ready to close the Bristol RICC's restaurant now. How many restaurants must he close before people will listen....

I mean by his own ommision he wrote a bad check to an employee - that's against the law....

He is totally a scam artist...a crook... He has screwed every person that has worked for him... Bounces all his employees checks...Doesn't pay any bills...He just closes down his businesses then claims bankruptcy..opens new ones...hires illegal immigrants ...just a loser...

The only person Jeff Karll pays is his attorney. This guy is a thief and any attorney who would represent him is a thief also.

I also worked for Jeff on Wharf Street, and I have to side with the comment Jeff posted! Half of the employees were lazy and trying to steal from him - those who actually worked got paid. He runs a tight kitchen and the food was spectacular. I go to the North End location every chance I get - and I'll be sure to visit on Exchange Street. The restaurant biz isn't as easy as it may look - if you can't take the heat, don't work near the kitchen folks!

Jeff Karll is ACES. G'Vanni's on Wharf was my favorite haunt. The fact that many Mainer's think Anjohn's is good Italian food speaks for itself. I am so looking forward to meeting up with him again now that I've relocated to Portland. Soley is always a problem ... not Jeff.

This guy is one rotten person. He is in the business to screw people. He doesn't pay anyone. He claims bankruptcy on every business he is associated with leaving a trail of bounced checks and screwed suppliers... He. Has lost his condo several times....he has the worst reputation in the business. Just ask the locals in Boston or Billerica. He doesn't pay any utility bills associated with his business, just keeps putting them In other names.... He can't even have a liquor license under his name.... Because of a felony.... So enjoy the food....and hope he screws you one day.... He should be in jail
